Repairify diagnostics reducing vehicle write-offs

Repairify has advised repairers that Toyota and Lexus models with wiring looms damaged by car thieves need not be automatic vehicle write-offs.

It has revealed that thieves are increasingly targeting popular Toyota and Lexus by exploiting a weakness in their can bus systems to start the engine without a key.

But while these vehicles are often just abandoned, the damage to wiring looms and high cost of repairs mean they are usually written off. Replacement wiring looms can cost upwards of £11,000, making these models economically unviable to repair.

However, Repairify has said it offers a diagnostic-led approach that can enable repairs to be carried out even without full wiring loom replacements.

Robert Neale, workshop operations manager at Repairify UK, said: “This is not just an issue around theft, it is also technical and financial. It affects insurers, bodyshops, and vehicle owners, and as architecture in vehicles becomes increasingly digital, these repairs will become more crucial.

“This is why we are providing practical solutions to this growing problem, to keep vehicles on the road with restored security systems.”
