MOT updates for EVs and ADAS under consideration
It has been reported that the government is considering a series of MOT updates for electric vehicles and those with ADAS features.
The European Commission has proposed a series of updates to periodic technical inspections, the European equivalent to MOTs, to improve vehicle safety in line with new technologies.
After leaving the European Union, the UK will not be obligated to follow any new regulations imposed on the continent, but the Department for Transport has said it will consider any amendments.
The EC said: “Current testing methods have not been adapted to advances and roll-out of new technologies, such as advanced driver assistance features, and electric vehicles.”
Proposals will be considered by the European Parliament and the Council and if agreed the Commission will then prepare new regulations.
