Land Rover overcomes cyber attack to take top spot
Land Rover was the most popular brand among car buyers on the Auto Trader platform in October despite the recent cyber attack.
The data also found that it attracted more views than any other vehicle brand, with BMW the second-most sought-after vehicle manufacturer during the month.
Top models
It also dominated the top 10 list of most popular models, with the Range Rover taking second place and the Defender 110 and Range Rover ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
However, for a third successive month, the Jaecoo 7 was the most popular new car across all fuel types, driving a 4.9% share of enquiries so far in October.
In terms of electric vehicles, the MG S5 retained its crown as the most in-demand new model in October, with four of the top five EV models being MG cars. More than a fifth of all searches for new electric cars were for MGs, ahead of Renault (8.3%) and BYD (6.9%).
Car demand
Bex Kennett, performance director, said: “We may be entering what is traditionally the market’s quieter period, but new car demand remains reassuringly robust thanks to the industry’s efforts to maintain consumer interest.
“The Electric Car Grant has also helped to entice new car buyers looking for greater EV affordability, which the popularity of MG and Renault highlights is vital to greater adoption.
“Whilst sales may ease in the coming months, this is a key researching period for buyers looking to purchase in the early new year so it’s very positive to see that brands and retailers aren’t letting up in either their incentives or marketing investments to convert researchers into buyers.”
