Global Car Recycling Day set for 20 June

Global Car Recycling Day will take place on Friday, 20 June to raise awareness and highlight the importance of vehicle recycling.

Of the 1.4 billion cars on the road, more than 13 million will not be recycled either because people are not aware of recycling or do not have the option to recycle.

However, Global Car Recycling has said recycling is more important than ever with finite resources and the results of global warming being felt across the globe.

It said: “To maintain the world’s most popular form of travel into the future, the public, authorities and the entire car industry must engage – raising awareness of the importance of responsible car recycling, campaigning for tighter regulations and support for car recycling infrastructure across the globe.”

Progress

Global Car Recycling continued: “While progress is being made – vehicle manufacturers’ improving their sustainability strategies, some authorities and governments tightening regulations and simply more individuals making those vital decisions to have their car recycled responsibly – there are still millions of cars that won’t be de-polluted and recycled effectively. Vast areas of the globe, despite having numerous car owners, don’t have the infrastructure to support responsible car recycling.

“We must all work together to make change happen faster; more people making the right decisions where this service is available and more advice and support for parts of the world where regulations are still years away. Awareness and action will be the only way we’ll avoid millions of cars polluting our planet and wasting potential resources. Global Car Recycling Day is the opportunity for us all to drive awareness and real progress for car recycling.”
