Five million UK drivers can’t afford repair costs
About five million motorists are driving unsafe vehicles in the UK because they can’t afford repair costs.
About half of these vehicles have been damaged by potholes, with 10 million motorists sustaining pothole damage in the past three years but 2.4 million admitting they either delayed repairs or skipped them completely.
Average pothole repair bills are estimated to cost £144, which equates to £1.7bn a year.
Clickmechanic surveyed 2,000 motorists in the UK and found that 15% had ignored warning lights or tried to carry out repairs themselves. However, 37% admitted that this had led to higher repair bills in the long run.
High risk
Founder and CEO Andrew Jervis said:
“Millions of potentially unsafe vehicles are likely on the roads. It is not worth the risk — ignoring what may initially be minor makes repairs more expensive to resolve.”
Clickmechanic offers convenient repairs, servicing, and MOTs to over 300,000 customers through a network of over 2,000 qualified technicians. Revenues doubled last year to about £5m, with its techs carrying out work valued at about £25m.
