Electric vehicle running costs a third cheaper than ICE

New data has revealed that electric vehicle running costs are nearly 30% cheaper over a five-year period than any other powertrain.
Based on analysis of more than 600 models carried out by Clear Vehicle Data and published by The Car Expert, electric vehicles were cheaper to service in 95% of like-for-like model comparisons.
It found that electric vehicles owners spent an average of £4,022 over the period compared to £5,709 spent by drivers of petrol, diesel and hybrid equivalents, representing savings of £1,687.
Stuart Masson, editorial director at The Car Expert, said: “While purchase price often dominates the EV conversation, servicing is a crucial – and frequently overlooked – aspect of car ownership. This latest data confirms that EVs offer real-world cost advantages long after the initial sale.”
Tim Hudson, managing director of Clear Vehicle Data, added:
“Electric vehicles are consistently cheaper to maintain across body styles, trims and usage levels. For fleet managers and everyday drivers alike, these savings are both measurable and impactful.”
