Electric Car Grant tips the balance for a third of drivers
A new survey has revealed that more than a third of motorists are more likely to buy an electric car as a result of the Electric Car Grant.
A national study carried out by Renault found that 35% of drivers said they were more likely to go electric as a result of the scheme.
Meanwhile, the study also found that 55% of respondents said they plan to buy an electric car in the next two years, with 85% of those aged between 17 and 34 saying they’ll go electric compared to just 27% of those over 55.
Those still reluctant to give up their petrol and diesel vehicles said the main obstacles were range (45%), charging infrastructure (47%), and upfront costs (34%).
The survey also identified a sharp gender divide, with 63% of men likely to buy an electric car in the next 24 months compared to 46% of women.
Electric vehicles have accounted for 21.9% of new car registrations so far in 2025, up from 19.6% in 2024.
