Demand for electric vehicles spikes on Auto Trader

Demand for electric vehicles has increased in September, accounting for seven of the 10 fastest selling models on Auto Trader during the month.

Auto Trader data revealed that electric vehicles are selling in just 27 days on average, making them the fastest selling fuel type.

Those in the three to five-year age category are proving even more popular with average selling times recorded at just 22 days. Setting the pace, three to five-year-old Tesla Model Y’s sell in just 17 days on average, as does the MG ZS and the Hyundai KONA.

This compares to an average selling time across all fuel types of 29 days, with diesels lagging behind at 31 days.

Electric vehicle dominance

Marc Palmer, head of strategy and insights, said: “Despite the dominance of electric models among the fastest sellers, it is the Vauxhall Corsa up to 1one year that claims the top spot, averaging an impressive 11 days to sell so far this September. This pace demonstrates the enduring popularity of the Corsa a staple in the used car market.

“At the other end of the scale, diesel models account for half of the slowest-selling used cars this September, underscoring a significant shift in consumer preferences away from this fuel type.

“Indeed, diesel is currently the slowest-selling fuel type overall, selling two days slower than the market average at 31 days on average.”
