Cooper Barnes Automotive expands to meet ADAS demand

Cooper Barnes Automotive is creating a new 5,000 sqft workshop to support surging demand for its ADAS calibration work.

The Cambridge-based repairer invested in new ADAS calibration technology a year ago and has reaped substantial benefits.

Managing director Matt Cooper said: “Every other car we see requires calibration work now. This wasn’t the case 12 months ago. We’ve been going 40 years, and whilst we knew autonomy was coming, the speed at which the change is happening is quite something.

“Until recently, A1 ADAS Group’s mobile ADAS technicians would come to our workshop and perform all our calibration and coding work.

“However, since most of the vehicles we see now require some form of calibration, it made sense to invest in our own equipment and bring the service in-house. We turned to A1, both for advice and to buy all the equipment.”

New workshop

The new workshop will sit alongside the company’s 13,500 sqft bodyshop and be dedicated entirely to calibration and mechanical work.

Cooper continued: “Given the space we have, Iain Molloy and Matt Hume at A1 recommended the Autel IA900WA which has a combined ADAS calibration and four-wheel alignment system. To go with it, we bought all the boards, targets, and mats, and upgraded our existing Autel diagnostic tool to an MS909.

“And with Iain’s vast knowledge and experience, they also advised us on the best training routes for the ADAS qualifications. I can’t tell you how important it is to have an ADAS and diagnostic partner that you trust implicitly. We have that with A1 ADAS Group.”
