Chinese car brand tops Auto Trader charts
A Chinese car brand has become the most popular new car on the Auto Trader platform for the first time.
According to the latest data, the Jaecoo 7 is the most in-demand new car on the site so far this month with 5.5% of all enquiries.
It was followed by the Range Rover Sport and Volkswagen Golf, which received a 4.4% and 3.2% share of enquiries respectively.
In terms of brands, Land Rover is the most popular manufacturer during August with 12% of enquiries. BMW and Volkswagen were second and third with a 9.3% and 8.6% share respectively.
Brands
When it comes to electric vehicles, the MG has retained its place as the most popular brand after it introduced its own grant on both the S5 and MG4 models. Its models accounted for 11.4% of all electric enquiries, ahead of Skoda (9.2%) and Renault (7.5%).
Meanwhile, Autotrader has also revealed that consumer interest in models eligible for the Electric Car Grant has surged this month, with advert views for the Vauxhall Mokka Electric up by 18% in the last week and views for the Scenic E-tech and Renault 4 saw rising by 47% and 21% respectively.
Electric Car Grant
Ian Plummer, commercial director, said: “Since the first car models were approved for government discounts this month, consumers have been flocking to our platform to check out for themselves the various vehicles they could make big savings on.
“With other manufacturers also introducing their own ‘grants’ to compete with eligible cars, this has had a positive effect on the new electric market – and in particular affordable EVs – as eight out of the 10 most in demand new EVs in August so far are priced below the £37,000 grant threshold.
“Five more models were added to the list over the weekend from Cupra, Peugeot and Volkswagen and with more EVs expected to be announced to qualify for the government incentive over the coming days, now could be a great time for consumers considering an EV to make the switch.”
