Van drivers facing longer hours for less return

New research carried out by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle has revealed that 60% of UK van drivers are working longer hours compared to this time last year as they battle to combat rising cost-of-living pressures.

Meanwhile, 68% identified rising material prices as one of their greatest challenge.

The survey of 1,000 UK van drivers revealed that UK van drivers are now averaging nine hours and 10 minutes of work per day, up more than 30 minutes from February last year.

Craig Cavanagh, national fleet manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: Faced with longer hours and concerns around the rising cost of materials, it’s easy to understand the pressure UK van drivers are feeling around the day-to-day running of their businesses. As part of our ‘Working With You’ commitment, we’re supporting those feeling this added pressure, to keep their businesses moving and running costs to a minimum.”

The Working With You scheme provides a range of service plans from £9.95 a month, reducing the impact of unplanned bills and unexpected repair costs.
