Judgement day for Uber in London
Uber will find out today if it can continue to operate in London. The ride-hailing firm’s licence will expire at midnight if it is not granted an extension.
Transport for London revoked its licence in 2017, raising a number of concerns such as the company’s approach to reporting serious criminal offences, how drivers’ medical certificates were obtained, and how criminal record checks were carried.
After appeal, Uber was given a 15-month extension, which expired in September. TfL then gave it a further two-month extension.
There are about 43,000 Uber drivers in London.
