Brian Robson Coachworks expands premises

Hertfordshire based collision repair specialist, Brian Robson Coachworks, has added 50% more capacity following a move to new premises in Welwyn Garden City.

The award-winning bodyshop business, which has been trading in St Albans for over 45 years, opened a second repair centre in Welwyn in 2015 but outgrew the site at the beginning of 2019, prompting the search for a larger workshop.

Featuring dual spray booths which enable the painting of vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, the firm’s new 7,000 sqft facility also includes a dedicated bay for four-wheel laser alignment.

According to Martin Robson, managing director of Brian Robson Coachworks, a major factor in securing approved repairer status from the majority of the UK’s volume brands has been the company’s continual investment in training and accreditation, as well as state-of-the-art tooling and equipment.

Commenting on the expansion of his business, Robson said: “Ensuring that every car is returned to its pre-accident condition requires a significant investment in update training and equipment, which reflects the advancing technology. As proud holders of the BSI Kitemark for Vehicle Damage Repair, all of our technicians and vehicle damage assessors hold IMI accreditation. It’s an essential part of remaining ahead of the curve.”

Robson added: “As cars get increasingly complex, the need for skills development is paramount within our industry, so one of our major challenges is recruiting technicians. In our experience, employees who are supported and encouraged to stay at the top of their game are more fulfilled and deliver the highest performance. That’s probably one reason why we have a number of staff who’ve served the business for over twenty years.”
