Tesla tops used electric car sales charts

New figures have revealed that Tesla is the most popular used electric car in the UK so far this year.

According to data from used car supermarket group Big Motoring World, the Tesla Model Y topped the list with 1,231 units sold year-to-date. It was followed by the Tesla Model 3, with 1,057 second-hand sales.

The Polestar 2 ranked third in sales volumes with 780 sales, followed by the Kia Niro EV (514), Vauxhall Mokka-e (481), Hyundai Kona Electric (480), VW ID.3 (451), and MG4 (449).

Meanwhile, the fastest-selling second-hand electric vehicle is the Tesla Model 3, which typically sells in just 18 days.

The company said: “Used electric vehicles are becoming more affordable, with Big Motoring World’s data showing that the Vauxhall Mokka-e and MG4 both average a resale price of £11,500.

“However, while more drivers can now afford an electric car, many of them may not have the home charging facilities to power it.

“Google search data suggests drivers without driveways are looking for ways to benefit from the domestic electricity VAT cut which has been extended to July 2027; in the last three months, Google searches for ‘cross pavement charging’ have risen 129%, and searches for ‘granny charger’ are up 53%, whilst ‘how much does it cost to charge an electric car’ is also up 50%.”
