Jaecoo 7 leads electric convoy of leased cars
New data has revealed that 39% of leased cars this year are electric, while three of the 10 most popular models are Chinese brands.
Data from Select Car Leasing has found that electric cars increased their share of the lease car market from 32% in 2025 to 39%, while petrol saw its share fall from 35% to 29% in the same period.
Plug-in hybrids have made up 14% of leased cars so far this year, while hybrids account for 10% and diesel seven per cent.
In terms of individual models, the Jaecoo 7 is by far the most leased vehicle, accounting for 25% of the market, ahead of the Kia Sportage (15%), VW T-Roc (nine per cent) and BYD Seal (nine per cent). The Leapmotor C10 EV also made the top-10 list with seven per cent of the leased car market.
Geoff Cockerill, director of operations at Select Car Leasing, said: “For the second year running, the Jaecoo 7 is proving to be Select’s most popular lease vehicle. Bbut it’s not the only Chinese manufacturer making huge inroads into the UK leasing market.
“We’ve delivered more examples of the BYD Seal than any other electric vehicle across 2026, while the Leapmotor C10 Electric has also proved incredibly popular, its success driven by affordable special offers.
“While our top 10 list still features traditional manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Kia, Nissan and Hyundai, our data illustrates how the sector is being reshaped.”
