Dedicated Pothole Insurance policy unveiled by ALA Insurance

Yorkshire-based GAP insurance provider ALA Insurance has unveiled a specialist Pothole Insurance policy.

The policy, which is available across the UK, provides up to £2,000 of cover each year for pothole-related damage, including tyres, alloy wheels, wheel alignment and balancing, suspension, bodywork and paintwork, and headlights.

It has been designed to cover pothole damage separately so customers can protect their no claims bonus.

The new product has been launched in response to the continued and growing pothole epidemic on UK roads.

The AA recorded 613,638 pothole-related callouts in 2025. Repair costs vary considerably by vehicle, but a tyre replacement can cost around £100 to £200, alloy wheel repairs around £150 to £250, and suspension or steering work £300 to £500 or more.

Simon England, founder and managing director at ALA Insurance, said: “As repair costs have gone up, we felt there was a need for something that covers pothole damage, without having to bring your main motor policy into it.

“It’s a common problem, and putting a relatively small repair through your main insurance can mean paying the excess and potentially affecting how you’re priced at renewal. The longer-term impact can end up being much greater than the damage itself.”
