SERMI-compliant service offers access in minutes

Hella Gutmann has introduced a new diagnostics service to help repairers access SERMI-related data in minutes.

Launched in the UK in April, SERMI means that only authorised bodyshops can access to security-related vehicle repair and maintenance information.

Hella Gutman has said that that while the majority of routine servicing, maintenance and diagnostics is not unaffected, its macsRemote Service enables workshops to carry out security-related coding, programming and configuration work.

The workflow is initiated when a technician requests remote support for a coding, programming or adaptation task. Where SERMI applies, a Hella Gutmann remote technician first verifies the organisation’s SERMI accreditation before sending a secure authentication request to the workshop.

The technician then confirms their individual SERMI credentials via the Digidentity smartphone app by scanning a one-time QR code. Once both parties have been validated, access to the manufacturer security gateway is granted.

Authentication

Julian Goulding, head of garage equipment at Hella Gutmann, said: “Hella Gutmann is fully accredited under the SERMI framework. We’ve integrated the SERMI authentication process directly into our existing macsRemote workflow, allowing garages to continue carrying out advanced repairs with minimal disruption while meeting the latest manufacturer security requirements.

“The entire authentication process typically takes around two minutes and is linked specifically to the individual vehicle being worked on.”
