Chinese brands gaining traction on Auto Trader
Chinese brands are becoming increasingly popular among car buyers, accounting for five of the top 10 most searched-for models on Auto Trader.
Its data revealed that across all fuel types the MGS9 has attracted the most enquiries in July, followed by the MG HS and the Jaecoo 7. The Jaecoo 5 and Tiggo 8 were also among the list of most popular models.
When looking at pure electrics, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric topped the list of searched for models on Auto Trader, ahead of the Jaecoo 5, BMW iX3, Ford’s Explorer and Hyundai’s INSTER.
At brand level, MG also led the overall rankings with a 13.3% share of enquiries, ahead of BMW (10.2%), and Audi (7.9%), with Jaecoo and Chery ranking sixth and ninth respectively.

Competitive market
Bex Kennett, Head of New Car at Autotrader, said: “The latest data points to a new car market that is becoming increasingly competitive as we approach the September plate change. Chinese-brand models are gaining traction, with five appearing in our July top 10, but it’s important to keep that in context. Established brands continue to account for a significant share of demand, particularly in electric, where the rankings remain highly competitive.
“For retailers, the key point is that buyer attention is becoming more fragmented. Compelling products, competitive pricing and the right stock mix will be especially important in the run-up to September.”
