Automotive vacancies fell by 28% year-on-year to around 13,000 positions, according to the latest Motor Trade Vacancy Tracker.
However, closer analysis of the data reveals that while recruitment for some roles is slowing, demand is still increasing in other areas.
The Tracker found that vacancies for commercial and supervisory positions have shrunk significantly, with aftersales vacancies down 44% year-on-year, sales roles falling 30% and management roles down 21%.
By contrast, demand remains strong for more technical roles, with positions relating to vehicle repair and servicing accounting for 72% of all vacancies – a 17% rise on the previous year.
More specifically, year-on-year demand increased for vehicle inspection skills (29%), detailing (31%), and suspension-related skills (20%).
