Used electric vehicle sales hit new peak in April

Used electric vehicle sales set new records in April, according to the latest data from MarketCheck.

It found that 34,932 used electric vehicles were sold across the UK during the month, making it the highest monthly figure ever recorded, surpassing the previous record of 32,880 set in March 2026.

The figures highlight the rapid pace at which the used EV market has expanded over the last three years: monthly sales in 2023 ranged between 7,000 and 8,500 vehicles and by mid-2025 volumes had risen beyond 20,000 per month.

Alastair Campbell from MarketCheck UK said: “The used EV market continues to break records month after month. April’s figures are another major milestone, with nearly 35,000 vehicles sold across the UK.

“What’s particularly striking is the pace of growth. In just two years, monthly used EV sales have more than tripled. Greater affordability, improving consumer confidence, and a much wider range of second-hand stock are all driving demand higher.

“Events in the Middle East, with associated fuel increases, have undoubtedly played a large role in these market developments. It is also important to note that part of this increase will be as a result of some three-year-old cars now coming off initial company leases.”
