Most trusted vehicle repairers in UK revealed

Sunderland has the most trusted vehicle repairers in the UK, according to a new global study of customer reviews.

Car scrappage comparison provider Scrap Car Comparison awarded car repair businesses in 155 cities around the world a trustworthiness score based on analysis of customer online feedback and reviews.

It found that workshops in Sunderland were rated 22nd globally and first in the UK with an overall trustworthiness score of 54.6 out of 100. It was followed by businesses in Walsall (53.7) and Dundee (52.3), with the top 10 list completed by Blackpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bradford, Stoke-on-Trent, and Portsmouth.

At the other end of the scale, Aberdeen is revealed as the city with the least trustworthy mechanics, scoring just 33.6. Other cities at the wrong end of the chart included Oxford (34.7), Leicester (37.2), Milton Keynes (37.4) and Edinburgh (39).

Trust

Matt Clamp, car scrappage expert at Scrap Car Comparison, said: “Many car owners don’t have a lot of technical vehicle knowledge beyond the basics of checking tyre pressures and topping up windscreen washer fluid, so have to place a lot of trust in their mechanic.

“From understanding exactly what work genuinely needs completing, to avoiding being overcharged, it can be hard for vehicle owners to know if they’re receiving good service. As a result, finding a reliable garage that drivers feel comfortable returning to can make a big difference in the long run.

“It’s encouraging to see that there are clearly mechanics out there who are working hard to build good relationships with their customers, yet for others, there is evidently work to be done.”
