IAM RoadSmart offers free skills day to young drivers
Road safety charity IAM RoadSmart is hosting a free driving skills and road safety day for young motorists.
It is inviting 40 drivers and 40 riders to Thruxton Circuit, Hampshire in August for two fully-funded days where they can develop new skills to improve driving habits and increase their safety on the roads.
The events are open to full licence holders aged 17–26, including riders holding A2 and full A motorcycle licences.
IAM RoadSmart is introducing the days to support drivers at a crucial stage in their driving or riding development, with figures revealing that one in five serious or fatal incidents in 2024 involved young drivers and one in 10 involved young riders.

IAM RoadSmart road safety manager Shaun Cronin said: ”Ultimately we want to make our roads safer for everyone, and our young driver and rider skills days are a big part of that.
“Research shows that young people are disproportionally involved in the collision statistics, which is a sobering reminder of why these training opportunities matter. These funded sessions give young people the chance to build confidence and develop real-world skills in a safe, supportive environment.”
