Six more models eligible for Electric Car Grant
Six more models are now eligible for the government’s Electric Car Grant scheme, bringing the total to 28.
The Ford Puma Gen-E and Ford E-Tourneo Courier have both qualified for the full £3,750 discount, while the Peugeot E-308, Peugeot E-408, DS 3, and DS 4 are all eligible for discounts of £1,500 discount.
The Electric Car Grant scheme was launched last month to accelerate the market’s transition to electric, with discounts based on the vehicles sustainability credentials from manufacturing through to end-of-life.
Auto Trader reported an immediate uptick in interest in electric cars on its platform, but others in the industry have described the scheme as confusing and suggested it could have a negative impact on both new and used sales.
Consumer demand
Iain Reid, head of editorial at Carwow, said: “Our data shows us that the introduction of the Electric Car Grant has sparked strong consumer demand for electric vehicles. After the initial grant announcement in early July, enquiries placed with dealers via Carwow for electric vehicles priced below the qualifying £37,000 increased by 124%, week-on-week.
“Electric vehicles priced above the threshold also benefited, with a 57% rise in enquiries over the same period, reflecting a general improvement in electric vehicle consideration and purchase intent across the segment.”
