In-car technology overwhelming most drivers

New research has found that drivers value convenience and comfort over road safety when it comes to in-car technology.

A survey of 2,000 motorists carried out by temporary car insurance provider Tempcover found that while air conditioning and parking sensors are welcome, more complex automated systems are widely seen as annoying.

The Tempcover research revealed that 42% of drivers said they would only buy a car with air conditioning, with parking sensors (29%) and reverse 360 degree cameras (24%) also highly popular.

However, 60% of respondents admitted they were overwhelmed by more complex systems, with lane assist (22%), voice recognition (17%) and app-based remote access (17%) the most annoying features.

Despite this, 67% of motorists said they trust their car’s automatic safety systems and 40% said they would be comfortable in a fully autonomous car.
