DVLA unveils electric vehicle grant portal
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will launch a dedicated online electric vehicle grant portal.
The government unveiled the new electric vehicle grant this week, offering car buyers up to £3,750 in discounts when purchasing a new electric car valued up to £37,000.
The grant has been introduced to supplement existing vehicle manufacturer discounts rather than replace them, and to secure the grant the new car must be delivered within nine months of order.
The new online portal is being developed specifically for vehicle manufacturers and dealerships to help them support customers access the discounts when buying a new car.
An application for the grant should be made and saved on the portal as soon as the sale of the vehicle is agreed, with the discount applied to the actual sale price of the vehicle after discounts and not its recommended retail price.
Audits will be carried out to ensure compliance, with approved grants paid in monthly instalments directly to the manufacturer or distributor.
