Commercial vehicles drive up traffic levels

Traffic levels in July matched those in July 2020, although the type of vehicles on the roads has changed.

According to the Department for Transport, light commercial vehicle levels were at 111% of 2020 levels, while heavy goods vehicles were at 110% on 12 months ago. Between them they made up for the shortfall car use, which averaged 96% in the month.

Meanwhile, statistics also revealed that traffic levels remain highest at the weekend – averaging 107% during July – compared to just 97% of July 2020 levels during the week.
