The future of the car, including how it is designed, manufactured and driven, will be debated at The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Open Forum, taking place on 5 June
at Automechanika Birmingham.
Vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and technology innovators will come together at the half-day conference to discuss the latest trends shaping the future of mobility and the supply chains behind it.
The shift to connected and autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing, augmented reality and flexible car ownership models will be explored in keynote speeches by automotive manufacturing leaders, including Aston Martin Lagonda and Toyota Motor Europe.
Britain is well placed to be a centre of excellence for the development and deployment of these advanced new vehicle technologies, thanks to close collaboration between industry, government and adjacent sectors, most notably tech. Moving to the next generation of mobility solutions presents a significant opportunity for the UK, with tangible social, industrial and economic benefits. The economic impact of connected and autonomous vehicles alone has been estimated at £51bn by 2030, with the creation of 320,000 additional jobs – 25,000 of them in automotive manufacturing.
