Best of Belron runner-up

Ryan Millar, a volunteer firefighter from Nairn in Scotland, placed as a runner-up in the Best of Belron competition – a global competition run by the parent company of Autoglass to find the world’s best vehicle glass technician.

Ryan came up against technicians from 30 countries around the world in front of more than 1,500 guests at the Best of Belron event in Frankfurt, Germany.

Ryan qualified for the global final by overcoming fierce competition to claim the title of the UK’s top technician in 2017. His runner-up position at the global event means that a UK competitor has now placed at the last four Best of Belron competitions.

With just a handful of points separating those positioned first to tenth, the overall competition was won by Rick Beasley from Safelite in the United States.

The competition was open to technicians of Autoglass and Belron from around the world. After months of preparation and training, the finalists had to demonstrate perfection in all aspects of their job, including a back-glass replacement, windscreen repair, body glass replacement and windscreen replacement.

Technicians were also tested on ADAS recalibration and how they communicate with their customers when carrying out each task. A team of judges rated the finalists, not only evaluating their performance for quality, safety and efficiency, but also ensuring fairness and transparency throughout the competition.

Commenting on his success, Ryan said, ‘It was a really hard competition and I came up against some great technicians, so to achieve a runner-up position is a really proud moment for me and my family…I want to thank all my colleagues at Autoglass for the support they have provided, and in particular my trainer Billy Johnston for the guidance he has given me throughout the competition.’
