iris annual golf day announced
Wednesday, 22 February 2012
Calling all three balls! The fourth annual iris golf day is set to take place on Thursday, 21 June at the Robin Hood Golf Club, Solihull, and the distribution group is currently recruiting teams to take part to raise money for this year’s chosen charity Red Balloon.

Owen Stafford, managing director of iris, said: ‘The all-day event includes full English breakfast, a round of golf, 3-course dinner, after dinner entertainment and prizes galore plus we make a donation for every team entered. Thanks to the generous support from all the attendees on the day the total raised allows a valuable contribution to be made to our chosen charity. With a shotgun start from all holes we are able to maximise the number of teams that play adding to the overall success of the day.’
This year’s charity Red Balloon, www.redballoonlearner.co.uk, supports and assists in the recovery of children who have been severely bullied, often to the point of attempting or seriously considering suicide. The Red Balloon centres provide an 'intensive care' full-time education for children aged between nine and 18 who are unable to attend school, providing a safe environment with clear boundaries for behaviour, and an individual full-time academic, pastoral and therapeutic programme.
Janet Williams, trustee of Red Balloon Learner Centre Warwick, commented: ‘We’re very grateful to iris for choosing us as its charity beneficiary. Recovering from the effects of bullying and unkind treatment children have sustained means they can restore their self-esteem, rediscover their love of learning, come to terms with their past experiences, get back on an academic track, and return to mainstream education, enabling them once again to participate successfully in life.’
Owen Stafford said: ‘We hope our distributors and business partners will support our event again this year. It’s our fourth time at the Robin Hood Club and the day has proved to be very popular with all attendees. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to raise funds for an extremely worthwhile charity, enabling young people to regain their confidence and move forward academically and socially towards further education or employment.’
