SMMT to host ‘Connected’ symposium

The SMMT will host 450 leaders in the automotive industry on 4 April, when it will discuss future mobility. This follows the government’s Future of Mobility strategy, published this week.

Nigel Base, SMMT commercial vehicle manager, said, ‘This week the government published its Future of Mobility strategy, setting out the approach it will take to seize opportunities from the changes happening in urban transport. The strategy is built on a number of high-level principles, with safety, accessibility, air quality and reducing congestion being key.

‘For the strategy to be a success it will require significant innovation in vehicle technology and investment in infrastructure.

‘While mass transit, cycling and walking will play an increasing role, the automotive sector will be central. SMMT has been working with Government on developing the strategy, while also ensuring the industry is best placed to develop viable solutions.

‘Future Mobility is high on the industry’s agenda and we will be hosting our third SMMT Connected event on April 4. This will bring together more than 450 senior level representatives from OEMs, the wider automotive industry, as well as the technology sector, government, and the media.

‘Following a keynote speech by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, the event will comprise a full day conference with a combination of informative sessions and panel discussions; enabling analysis of the potential advancements for future mobility and what needs to happen to realise these.’
