Western Commercial comes out on top

Scotland’s Western Commercial has been awarded the title of Mercedes-Benz Vans’ Retailer of the Year.

The achievement reflects the strong teamworking ethos evident in all areas of the dealer’s operation, which translates into exceptionally high levels of performance.

Speaking at the manufacturer’s annual Van Stars celebration of excellence within its franchised network, Mercedes-Benz Vans UK managing director Steve Bridge said, ‘Consistency is the key here. This is not a ‘one hit wonder’ award. It’s about delivering that Van Stars experience to our customers time after time.’

Steve hailed the Western Commercial team’s ‘genuine motivation and desire to achieve’, as well as ‘the partnership approach they have with each other across their business, and with those of us at Mercedes-Benz Vans Head Office’.

A longstanding member of the Mercedes-Benz Dealer Network, Western Commercial employs 255 colleagues who work from its headquarters in Broxburn, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, and other branches in Glasgow, Bellshill and Dundee.

Market Area director, Andrew Smith said ‘We were starting from a pretty low base. But a wide-ranging improvement strategy has delivered better results each year, to the point that we’ve now reached the very top of the pile. This is hugely gratifying, and my thanks go to every member of the company team for the fantastic effort that has made it possible.’

He added, ‘Steve was right to focus on the importance of teamwork within our business. We’ve broken down the barriers that once existed between New and Used Sales, Sales and After Sales, and Parts and Services, with the result that we’re now one big, highly motivated team, all pulling together towards a common, clearly defined set of goals.’
