Waregrain raises money for hospice

The sun shone brightly on a fifth annual charity golf day run by the Waregrain Group which raised £750 for the Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading.

Waregrain Group, part of ACIS, held this year’s event at the Players Club, in Chipping Sodbury, with golfers of all ages and abilities joining in from the company and its network of customers.

Taking the honours on the day was Mark Andrews, who pipped Phil Ashpole on countback, with Nigel Garrett rounding out the winners’ rostrum.

The team event was won by Team Rosso and its players Nigel Garrett, Jason Morse, Kevin Lloyd and Lee Patman, with Team Inferno and its players Martin McCarthy, John Bowler, Andy Green and Lee Woodward taking the runners-up spot.

Rounding out the top three were Team Andes on 88 points, with a team consisting of Alex Green, Noel Jennings, Richard Howick and Frank Delaney.

The nearest the pin competition had an entry fee donation in aid of the hospice, which is run by Sue Ryder and provides specialist end-of-life care. The charity also provides hospice care from two other sites in Berkshire, in Wokingham and Newbury.

Waregrain sales director Derrick Griffin said, ‘Thanks to all the kind donations from participants, we were able to raise £750 for the Duchess of Kent Hospice, which is a very worthy cause.

‘Our annual golf day is a date in the calendar we all look forward to.  The weather was truly on side this year, which meant the course was in perfect condition and the golfers really enjoyed themselves.’
