Vizion and 3GRC create GDPR solution

Vizion, the UK’s largest vehicle body repair network, has partnered with global risk management experts, 3GRC, to ensure its repair centres are meeting good practice expectations for customer data management.

Supported by industry insurers and manufacturers, Vizion and 3GRC have agreed and built a common standard which includes both the government-backed Cyber Essentials certification and European wide GDPR necessities.

Vizion’s intention is to ensure all repairers attain the common standard together with ICO registration before the GDPR compliance deadline of 25 May, 2018.

In considering its approach, Vizion had concerns that the GDPR requirement could drive huge disruption and cost into the network and industry, so has spent 18 months developing strategies and partnerships with all stakeholders to minimise this. It was essential to develop a manageable process that was comprehensive and cost effective, yet flexible enough to benefit Vizion’s repairer partner businesses and clients.

Repair centres will be able to display their certification, evidencing to customers and clients that they have taken the necessary steps to meet current regulations and expectations. For those that are having trouble meeting the standard, Vizion and 3GRC will provide options and support to help address any issues.

Alastair Parr, one of 3GRC’s co founders, said, ‘The key challenge in this exercise is making sure that the standard can be assessed in a scalable and consistent way. Using our 3GRC software and skilled consultants, we can make sure that costs can be controlled, allowing us to focus on supporting repair centres that may have trouble meeting the common standard.’

Chris McKie, managing director of Vizion added, ‘Our approach has been designed to support Vizion partner businesses through this process and in their ongoing use and storage of data. To give them, our clients and customers the measurable and visible confidence that their data is protected.’
