Sewell takes IMI accolade

Paul Sewell of Chesterfield College has been awarded the Outstanding Individual Achievement by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) at its annual dinner.

The award, handed to Paul who helped steer Chesterfield College to a highly commended recognition at the bodyshop Awards last year, was given for ‘achieving dramatic improvements in results through a new approach to training’.

‘I feel very proud and humbled to have received the Outstanding Individual Achievement award from the IMI. It couldn’t have happened without the amazing people I work with at Chesterfield College, past and present,’ said Paul.

‘It is nice that industry colleagues are recognising the hard work and dedication we are continually doing, in our quest to bridge the skills gap that is becoming increasingly apparent in the automotive sector.’

Paul was one of five award category winners to be presented at the event. Linda Jackson, global CEO of the Citroën brand at Groupe PSA received the Sue Brownson Award for Outstanding Leadership in Automotive; Contribution to the Motor Industry went to Andy Tuberfield of Halfords Autocentres for being a tireless supporter and promoter of female apprentices and MOT testers; Katheryn Beaurain from Pro Align was awarded the Contribution to the Work of the IMI for her support of the IMI SkillAuto competitions; and the Key Contact recognition went to Paul Jarvis, for his dedication to building support for IMI members in the Birmingham area.

‘I believe that Sue Brownson, after whom this award is named, would herself have truly admired Linda Jackson as a role model in general, but especially for her ground breaking achievements in demonstrating that gender should not be a barrier to the very highest attainment in our industry,’ said Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI.

Three Honorary Fellowship Awards were also given, to John Bloor of Triumph Motorcycles; Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Group sales operations director; and Dr Ian Robertson, member of the main board of BMW AG.
