Rolls-Royce announces significant job cuts

Engineering firm Rolls-Royce has announced it is cutting 4,600 jobs over the next two years.

The cuts are expected to take place mainly at its Derby base, with middle managers and back office staff bearing the brunt of the cuts.

This is part of a major restructure, which will see the company refocus its business on civil aerospace, defence and power systems.

A third of job cuts will take place this year, with further cuts taking place until mid 2020.

Chief executive Warren East said, ‘We have too complex a management and support organisation and we need to simplify that so that we can remain competitive.’
