Plunkys All Stars wins Mirka Cup

Plunkys All Stars narrowly beat Team Mirka 3-2 at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes on 24 May to win the inaugural Mirka Cup in aid of Willen Hospice, Mirka’s chosen local charity for 2018.

The brainchild of Mirka’s national accounts business development managers from the ART (automotive) division, Karl Horsley and Paul North, the showdown raised almost £700 through the raffle. Most of the prizes were donated by customers and players and included a mountain bike, signed shirts and champagne, as well as through donations on its JustGiving page and on the night.

Man of the Match from each team was awarded to both number eights – Steven Baker for Team Mirka and Alex Humphries for Plunky’s All Stars.

Karl Horsley said, ‘It was a terrific night.  It’s a shame Team Mirka lost but the match was very close and the crowd were truly entertained.  There are no losers, however, as our generous players and supporters put their hands in their pockets and raised a great amount of money for our chosen charity, Willen Hospice, so that it can continue the amazing work it does in the local community. We’d also like to give a big thank you to Plunkys All Stars for taking part and for their sponsorship, and to Malcom Bell at John Davey paints for sponsoring the match balls.’
