Autoglass ADAS growth continues

Autoglass plans to open 11 more ADAS calibration centres in the UK before the end of the year.

To date this year Autoglass has opened 14 new centres, increasing its network of centres across the UK. It is set to open another 11 this year, taking the total number of Autoglass ADAS calibration centres in the UK to at least 70 by the end of 2018.

The expansion is part of its strategy to meet the increased demand for ADAS calibration, as more and more cars incorporate these smart features. In the first six months of 2018, Autoglass completed more than twice the number of ADAS calibrations than the same period in 2017.

Cameras and sensors support many of the ADAS technologies installed in new cars that enable safety features such as autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warnings. ADAS increases driver safety by warning drivers to potential hazards on the road. However, the systems need to be calibrated following a windscreen replacement to ensure they can still accurately detect potential dangers, yet many car owners remain unaware of this essential safety requirement and research shows that 68% of drivers ignore their vehicle manufacturers advice to calibrate their safety system.

The locations for the new ADAS centres are spread across the UK, in locations such as York, Cambridge, Plymouth and Stirling. Each of the new 14 sites has the latest in ADAS calibration technology and a team of fully trained specialist technicians.

Jeremy Rochfort, national sales manager, said, ‘The adoption rate of ADAS in fleet vehicles is much higher as fleet cars tend to be newer and come with up-to-date safety features. However, our research shows that keeping up to date with technology ranks low down on fleet decision-maker’s priorities. That’s why we’re investing in educating the fleet industry on the importance of ADAS calibration and in our technical expertise and capabilities to ensure we can match the rising demand for these services.

‘This investment shows our commitment to the fleet community, and I’m pleased that we will expand our network of ADAS centres to 70 by the end of the year. The static sites cover a large proportion of the UK and complement our dynamic calibration service, meaning wherever you or your drivers are Autoglass has the capability to offer the smoothest possible customer journey.’
