York bans Uber

A third UK city has banned Uber from operating, after taxi drivers complained about being ‘overwhelmed’ by the ride-hailing app.

York has rejected Uber’s bid to renew its operating licence, following in the footsteps of London and Sheffield. Councillors complained that Uber drivers from as far afield as London and Birmingham, taking money out of the local economy.

Saf Din, chair of York Hackney Carriage Association, said, ‘We must also have every driver from Bradford here at the moment.’

The City of York Council said it was also concerned about the huge data breach admitted by Uber.
