VW keeps quiet on Dieselgate

Volkswagen is refusing to share the results of its investigation into dieselgate, despite demands from shareholders.

It claims there is no final report to share, and won’t be one.

‘There is no written concluding report by Jones Day and there will not be one,’ said Chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch to 3,000 investors at the company’s annual meeting. ‘I ask for your understanding that VW, for legal reasons, is prevented from publishing such a final report.’

Louise Ellman, who led the UK Transport Select Committee inquiry into the emissions scandal, said, ‘We were told very clearly by VW that the report would be published in due course. Saying there is no report is not credible, it stretches the imagination too far and lets down consumers.’

The car maker has agreed to pay tens of billions in fines and compensation in the US, where about 500,000 vehicles were affected, but is refusing to take similar action elsewhere. A 29-page statement of facts summing up the investigation’s findings was issued as part of VW’s settlement with US authorities.
