Uber’s European boss steps down

Uber’s London-based head of northern Europe affairs is leaving the company.
The company says it has nothing to do with London’s recent decision not to renew Uber’s licence.
In an email to staff, Jo Bertram said, ‘I’ve decided to move on to something new and exciting.’ She added, ‘Given some of our current challenges, I’m also convinced that now is the right time to have a change of face, and to hand over to someone who will be here for the long haul and take us into the next phase.’
Transport for London (TfL) refused to renew Uber’s London licence last month, saying it was ‘unfit’ to run a taxi service. The company is appealing and its 40,000 drivers in the city can continue operating during the appeal process.
Uber chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi is meeting TfL commissioner Mike Brown today. The company has admitted it has made ‘mistakes’.
