Tesla gears up insurance programme

Tesla is set to introduce its InsureMyTesla insurance programme in North America.

Electrek reports Tesla has partnered with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and Aviva to offer the service in the US and Canada respectively. At present Tesla partners with AXA General Insurance in Hong Kong, and in Australia, the automaker has released its new plan with QBE Insurance.

Tesla states that InsureMyTesla is ‘designed for Tesla cars’. Earlier this year, Jon McNeill, Tesla president of sales and services, said that it works with insurers to develop insurance products based on, ‘Autopilot safety features and the maintenance costs of the cars.’

Ultimately, in the US, Tesla aims to release the InsureMyTesla programme in all 50 states.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is previously on record as stating: ‘Not to the exclusion of insurance providers but if we find that insurance providers are not matching the insurance proportionate to the risk of the car, then if we need to, we will in-source it. I think we will find that insurance providers do adjust the insurance cost proportionate to the risk of a Tesla.’
