Remit’s Rearsby apprentices back charity

A team of apprentices is set to donate nearly £500 to cancer support charity, Maggie’s, in memory of a man who dedicated his career to automotive apprenticeship training.

The apprentices, trained by national training provider, Remit Training, come from across the country to do week-long training blocks at Remit’s dedicated automotive training facility in Rearsby, Leicestershire.

At the end of each block training week, the apprentices all make a donation for ‘dress down Friday’, as they are expected to wear smart dress or workwear on all other training days.

Over the past three years these small amounts have added up, and Remit’s training team at Rearsby has collected £476, all with the intention that it would be donated to a cancer charity.

During a recent visit to Rearsby, Remit’s automotive development director, Mick Pilling, met with a group of apprentices to decide on a worthwhile cause. It was decided unanimously to donate the money to the Maggie’s Centre, based in the grounds of Nottingham City Hospital.

Maggie’s is a national charity, which currently has 19 centres across the country, all built within the grounds of NHS hospitals. They provide free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

Apprentices are donating the money in memory of Nottingham man, Eric Braham, who died at the age of 68 in February this year after a two year battle with cancer. A former apprentice himself, Eric dedicated his career to apprenticeship training, in particular through the motor industry, spending over thirty years in work based learning.

A good friend of Eric’s, and colleague of many years, Mick said, ‘We’re really proud of all the apprentices for making their regular donations and raising money for a very worthwhile cause.’
