Price of failure set at £60m

UK drivers spent more than £60m on failed driving test last year, it’s been revealed.

Analysis from vehicle finance provider Moneybarn found that 53% of the million-plus practical tests were failed, along with 51% of the 1.9 million theory tests.

That equates to more than £40m on failed practical tests and more than £20m of unsuccessful theory tests.

The pass rate in 2007/08 was up at 66%, with the drop coinciding with the multiple changes to the theory test, starting in 2007. The main changes included; an increase to the number of questions (35 to 50), the addition of a new case study section with accompanying questions, and test questions no longer being published online.
