One in five Brits switch cars due to boredom

Boredom is one of the main reasons people buy a new car in the UK, according to a new study.

Car leasing specialist, UK Carline, polled 1,000 drivers who own or lease a car in the UK, looking at how often Brits renew their cars and the reasons for getting rid of their old ones. The research found that 20% of UK residents buy a new car because they’re bored of their old one.

The survey also revealed that finances are a big factor when it comes to deciding on a new vehicle, with 43% of those surveyed buying a new car as a result of sky high repair bills.

It would also appear that looking good on the road is at the forefront of many Brits’ minds, as 21% stated they renew their car so they can drive the latest models.

The top five reasons for changing cars included; previous vehicles costing too much in repairs (43%), previous vehicles costing too much to run (24%), wanting to drive the latest models (21%), boredom over previous vehicles (20%) and wanting to keep up with the latest technology/features (14%).

Commenting on the research, Jonathan Nolan, general manager at UK Carline said, ‘It’s great to see that we’re a nation of petrol heads who love to regularly change our cars and keep up with the latest models.

‘Our research has revealed that running and repair costs are reasons for changing cars for many people around the country, but leasing your vehicle is a great way of keeping these costs low as well as giving you the flexibility to change your vehicle when it suits you.’
