ICO to pursue fine

Post reports that the director of an insurance broker that was wound up just two days before it had to pay a £30,000 fine could be chased for the outstanding amount.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) confirmed to Post that it was still looking to recover costs against London based Oracle Insurance Brokers – which was fined in December 2016 after sending 136,000 unsolicited texts.

The company was dissolved on 3 January.

The director of Oracle Insurance Brokers, Damien Kennedy, is still listed as director for two other companies, Wintech Europe in Hertfordshire and Maximum Car Credit in Hampshire. Post reports he could not immediately be reached for comment via office numbers of either company.

The government announced in October it was closing a legal loophole which enabled bosses of nuisance call companies to close a company to avoid a fine, and re-open under a new name meaning directors themselves could face fines of up to £500,000.
