Ford leads February sales

Ford was number one in terms of retail car sales and net fleet, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The Fiesta led retail sales and remains UK’s best-selling vehicle, while Ford CV sales up for the year to date with sales more than double those of nearest rival, with Transit Custom and Transit ranked first and second in CVs.

Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said, ‘Ford’s long-standing market leadership is being consolidated by the strength of our more profitable retail sales, which play a significant role next month when the March registration plate change results in sales around seven times higher than February.’

According to the official SMMT figures, February car sales in the UK were down 0.3 per cent at 83,115 registrations, compared with February 2016.  Ford sold 9,909 cars in February, down 13.9 per cent, compared with February 2016.  Ford’s car sales lead over its nearest rival was 2,583.
