Fix Loughborough goes virtual

Fix & Go Loughborough, the newest express repair centre in the Fix Auto network, has opened its doors to the world thanks to an innovative investment by its owner Paul Smith.

In what could be an industry first, the Leicestershire-based repairer commissioned a specialist 3D videographer to create a virtual 360° tour of his new site, allowing customers to take an in-depth look around its entire facilities in high definition, all from the comfort of their own homes.

While users can view the centre from their computers, tablets or smartphones, the system also enables those using virtual reality – or VR – headsets to walk around the bodyshop, allowing them access to the fully branded reception, offices and entire workshop with the added bonus of being able to zoom in on specific points of interest. There are also hyperlinks to video and text explanations or information tags, which provide additional information.

Explaining the technology behind the process, Keith McMahon, technical director at Venue View Ltd, who produced the simulation said, ‘Our specialist camera system enables us to swiftly record any venue in 360° HD. The addition of infra-red cameras enables us to capture a 3D version to create an exact representation of any site.’

Paul said, ‘It’s been a long time since I have been totally overwhelmed by something, but this system is quite incredible. I am amazed at the quality and its accuracy. The high definition system provides me with another avenue where we can showcase our superb facilities to our customers.’

Keith added, ‘Until now, we have predominantly worked within the hospitality sector producing similar systems for grand hotels. This is the first time we have stepped into the automotive arena and we were thrilled to work with Paul and the team at Fix Auto Loughborough. We were delighted to provide a product that matched their cutting edge facilities. Hopefully the 3D walkthrough and embedded information will allow potential customers to understand more about the products and services on offer in a modern-day bodyshop and accident repair centre.’
