Costs turning new drivers off

The cost of running a car is the main reason people are being put off learning to drive.

A new poll of more than 2,000 people found that 31% said the cost of owning a car had turned them off the idea.

A quarter said they didn’t think they’d be good drivers, while 24% said they couldn’t even afford the lessons in the first place.

Research from www.vouchercodespro.co.uk found that drivers spend between £740 and £1,495 on lessons, with almost half taking the test from two to four times before passing, adding a further £124 or £248 to the bill. Nearly a third of drivers (30%) had to take the test five times of more before passing.

London was the most expensive place for learning to drive, with the average cost at £1,495.
