BMW to up production

BMW Group, which includes the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands, plans to raise its annual production capacity by about 27% to three million vehicles by 2020.

According to German daily newspaper Handelsblatt, BMW will double its production in China to 600,000 cars a year with production in the United States and Mexico rising from 410,000 vehicles to 750,000.

To keep up with the demand in SUVs, which BMW has previously underestimated, the company will be manufacturing its X5, mid-sized SUV, as well as its X1 and X3 models in China.

BMW Group built 2.37 million vehicles in 2016.

The manufacturer has also announced that it will launch an 8 series model in 2018 in an upmarket strategy push.
