BMW man takes Babcock prize

BMW apprentice Toby Diggins from BMW Sytner Solihull was crowned overall Automotive Apprentice of the Year at the fourth Babcock Automotive Apprentice of the Year competition.

Hosted at Babcock’s dedicated Automotive Training Academy in Milton Keynes, the event saw apprentices from brands such as BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group (FCA), Mazda, Royal Mail Fleet, Volkswagen Group and Babcock Critical Services go head-to-head in the competition.

Toby, who also took the Paint Technician of the Year award will finish his Level 3 apprenticeship in December after two and a half years at the academy, said, ‘The quality of the training we’ve all had at the academy has been amazing and the competition has been a fantastic opportunity for all of us to show off just how much we’ve learned at the academy before we go out into the wider world.’

Alongside Overall Apprentice of the Year winner Toby, awards were also given to: Panel Technician of the Year – Joshua Meredith of VW Road and Race Restorations Ltd, Little Hulton, Manchester; Paint Technician of the Year – Toby Diggins, BMW Sytner Solihull; Service Technician of the Year – Jack Dunseith, Royal Mail Fleet – Newtownabbey; Parts Consultant/Advisor – Araon Thomas, Croydon Mazda, and Customer Service Consultant/Advisor – Emily Holman, BMW Chandlers Hailsham, East Sussex.

Gordon Reynolds, director of automotive training at Babcock, said, ‘This event has really gone from strength-to-strength and we’re delighted that more apprentices are taking part each year. It’s been a chance for them to show off what they’ve learned and hopefully enjoy themselves too.’
